City Break Deals

Ten years ago city breaks were pretty expensive, easily costing £500 pp when all said and done. These days with the rapid growth of low cost airlines and their new routes, there are opportunities to travel a lot cheaper and too many more destinations. Moreover it’s much more likely that you can fly from a local airport direct to the city of your choice than a decade ago. Many new city break destinations have opened up too. We have gone from the classic range of capitals i.e. Amsterdam, Paris, Brussels and Rome to being able to sample a weekend in a choice of “second cities” such as Gothenburg, Prague, Bordeaux and Valencia. You can also try a city break in a place you may never even heard of before ! How about a weekend in Zadar, Osijek, Cunio or Nador ?

What many people are doing these days is to use Skyscanner or to source the flights then combine them with a hotel only booking. Though cheap and flexible, there is a risk of doing it this way that customers can lose money or be inconvenienced by any of the following scenarios :

1. ) Hotel booking company ceases trading.

2.) Airlines ceases operating.

3.) Airline cancels or changes date of flights.

Sadly we have seen failures in the travel industry all too often in recent times, that’s one of the reasons we only work with strong, reputable companies. Depending on customers individual circumstances they will decide what is best for them but there are a few tips we have gathered.

1.) Book using a credit card which gives more financial protection than debit card.

2.) Use a hotel website that doesn’t charge you until check out  e.g.

3.) Book a city break with flight + hotel together that is covered by an ATOL bond e.g. or Opodo
